Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Don't read or even glance at this blog if you don't want to know how it ends!!!

OK - I guess I'm starting the conversation...
The ending really caught me by surprise.  I actually gasped aloud when Katniss killed Coin.  Does anybody think this was necessary, or was she just caught in psycho-land from her encounter with Snow?

  3. I don't know if it was necessary but it's deffinetly a way to solve the problem.

  4. lol ben... yeah it is. I thought that it was necessary because otherwise they would have ended up with another snow. Coin was spiteful and full of hate. She would have ruled with hate instead of peace.

  6. I think that snow made her realize what coin would do to the country... what im confused about is how snow died- did he like choke or something?

  7. He was already diying when the excucition was to occur

  8. oh ok, well yeah im glad coin was killed, i never liked her

  9. ben kinda random but i dont think mrs ash wants us talking about science on her blog so will u go to facebook so i can ask u a question about the science?

  10. This is Faraz. I guess this is my old gmail account from when I was like 9 or something. ScorchBlade? Wow. Anyways,I think it was necessary because throughout the series Katniss tried to protect the people she cared about. Prim in the reaping, Peeta in the first game, and so on. When Prim died and she realised that it was Coin who killed her little sister, she sort of went crazy. Add that to the fact that she didn't like Coin in the first place since she, you know, tried to kill her...
On a side note, who do you think is the new ruler of Panem??

  11. yeah faraz, i agree with u, katniss talked to snow and realized that coin killed coin and thats when she realized actually how horrible coin was and what she would do to the country. um, i think they elected the ruler of 8? the persons name started with p. and u no that u can change ur screen name-u click view my complete profile under about me on this page, then u click the blogger sign in the upper left corner. then u click edit profile and u can change ur screen name

  12. its almost disturbing though that they voted to have a final hunger games

    ReplyDelete
  13. oh i no! thats one of the reasons that i knew that Coin was horrible, and just like Snow. And I can't believe that Katniss voted for it! I mean, she had competed in them herself.

  14. Hey this Evan Emma I think she still felt hurt by being put in the Games twice but once she looked at the facts she knew the cycle had to end.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And to answer Mrs. Ash I do believe it was necessary because leaders would once again use the Games to solve their problems rather than working them out diplomatically as they said they would in their new republic.

  16. Evan(tell me if i should no who u r, im emma h)?

i think your right, she voted for it out of hurt, but looked at the facts, and thats why she realized coin was evil.

  17. Emma, snow died by being trampled. The hunger games didn't occur after coin was killed, or it shouldn't have. I completely agree with emmas first comment before she removed it. Coin had to die because she would just become another snow.

  18. I hope that posted. If it did, can someboy please comment?

I don't know why they didn't just go in and totally destroy the capitol with those disappearing hovercraft things. It would have been a lot simpler.

  19. ok, trampling makes sense. I didnt remove it, and yeah she had the same heart of snow, she just disguised her heart to the rebels and didnt show it before the vote.

And i think they didnt have enough hovercrafts or enough people to destroy the capital like that. But i think that they didnt want to destroy the capitol-they just wanted to rule it themselves, the way they thought it should be run, without snow.

  20. Yeah, but they could have done exactly what they did with the rebels with the hovercrafts, and if they couldn't do that, it would make good transportation, but it would make sense that they wouldn't have enough hovercraft things.

What I don't see is why she didn't just go insane- her sister and old city died, she killed snow so there was nothing left for her to do. She could have just ended it for herself. I know she tried, but why not try again when she was living alone, except for the cook?

  21. idk, maybe because she realized that she didnt want to die?

  22. I can't believe that nobody has talked about Prim much. I know Zach did for a sec but she hasn't been mentioned at all before that. Coin was horrible for putting Prim on the front line just so Katniss could watch her die. I think that Coin deserved to die

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, I agree with you Brady. Coin was an evil person, just like Snow. She did deserve to die. Letting Prim die like that, right in front of Katniss? What a horrible thing to do.

  24. I thought that she was going to kill Coin before it happened.
i wish she had done it back at district thirteen earlier in the book. Coin was a real pain throughout the book.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah. She just wasn't a good person. Her death was too good for her. Snow got trampled, and she got shot with an arrow. Hmmmmm.

  26. Snow started laughing right after Katniss shot Coin. that was pretty freaky. he just started laughing and then he flipped himself over the balcony edge and died.
i think that it is good that both of them died because they both wanted to rule all of Panem but both in a bad way.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah. On a different note, (lol) I thought she would pick Gale. I mean, they had been friends forever. But, she would never forget that something at least like his bomb had killed Prim, So... But i thought it was freaky when they did that thing with the trackerjack venom.

    ReplyDelete
  28. yea you think she would have chose Gale because Peeta went crazy and do they say at the end of the book whether or not the venom is still working in Peeta?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I hated how Gale left at the end- that stunk. I thought that she was going to pick him- I hated that Peeta was hijacked, but I thought it would have been the perfect opportunity to get her with Gale. And yeah, I think it was horrible how coin let Prim die- both she and snow deserved death, although I thought the arrow was too nice of a death for coin (i agree with Faraz on that. ps glad u were able to change ur name :))

  30. The time on this is way off! its 6:30 not 4:30

  31. I thought it was definitely necessary for katniss to kill coin because I dont think that coin would have been a good leader or even a member of a goverment. I thought she seemed somewhat narcissitic. So even if they got rid of snow it wouldnt solve the problem completely unless both of them are out of the picture.

  32. I hope this whole name change thing works out, but if it doesn't this is Anthony M. Sorry for the late post; I had some difficulties. Anyway, I am pretty sure that I too, like Mrs. Ash, gasped when Katniss killed Coin. This, I belive was out of pure shock, though. I say this because in truth, I had even thought about her doing it a couple times. When you think about it, neither of the two leaders were suited to rule Panem. Coin was basically another Snow, in terms of leadership, but with a different group of followers for better motives. This is why I was happy after my shock subsided. Snow's death was just the cherry on top, pushing both of them out of the picture. To me, Katnniss killing Coin also felt like a sweet revenge for Prim's death.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Absolutely! I almost cried when Prim died, and I was furious at Coin for killing her- coin and snow both deserved to die, they were murdurers

  34. has everyone given up on this?!? Mrs. Ash, it would be cool if you could do this again!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe we could do it for the new camp half-blood book!
